Student Support Officers
Student Support Officers for Peoples-uni
Peoples-uni (http://peoples-uni.org) is registered as a charity and offers Internet based learning to health professionals in developing countries in the field of Public Health, at very low cost. Students come from all over the developing world, but mainly Africa at present.
Elearning, learning over the Internet, is challenging, especially for those such as our students who mostly have jobs and family responsibilities. Volunteer expert tutors lead online discussion forums, where students are able to extend their knowledge gained from the resources in each module, but we have found that the students do require extra help and support in navigating through the course. We therefore wish to appoint Student Support Officers whose role would be to make contact with students as they enrol, provide some support in terms of feedback to help them work though the course and be available to answer student questions by email. Support and familiarisation will be given to the Support Officers themselves, by those who have been involved in the programme for some years.
The role would involve email contact only, would require Internet access and familiarity, and take not more than an hour or two a week on average, although there may be some busy periods where more hours would be required. Familiarity with the education sector would be useful, but expertise in Public Health or developing countries is not essential. These are new positions, evolved from previous similar positions as the course itself has evolved, so there is also the opportunity to shape the work.
Please contact us through the contact form if you might be interested to join in or would like further information.
